The Bayesian Echo Chamber: Modeling Influence in Conversations
نویسندگان
چکیده
Motivation: mapping influence from linguistic accommodation Question: Who influences whom in a conversation? • The influence relations are usually implicit in social interactions. Can we infer them from “who said what at what time”? (availability of many transcript data) • Existing approach — modeling the dynamics of turn-taking behavior, i.e. “who speaks next?” (e.g. you are influencing me if I respond quickly to what you said) • Yet, content information should tell even more. Can we infer influence from content + dynamics? • Linguistic accommodation phenomenon in sociolinguistics

The Bayesian Echo Chamber: Modeling Social Influence via Linguistic Accommodation
We present the Bayesian Echo Chamber, a new Bayesian generative model for social interaction data. By modeling the evolution of people’s language usage over time, this model discovers latent influence relationships between them. Unlike previous work on inferring influence, which has primarily focused on simple temporal dynamics evidenced via turn-taking behavior, our model captures more nuanced...
متن کاملLanguage Modeling With Dynamic Bayesian Networks Using Conversation Types and Part of Speech Information
In this paper we investigate whether more accurate modeling of differences in language in different types of conversations, e.g. formal presentations vs. spontaneous conversations can improve the quality of a language model. We also investigate whether the modeling of sentence lengths can improve a language model. A language model is an important component of statistical natural language proces...

Computational social science has been emerging over the last several years as a hotbed of interesting work, taking advantage of, to quote Lazer et al. (Science, v.323), ”digital traces that can be compiled into comprehensive pictures of both individual and group behavior, with the potential to transform our understanding of our lives, organizations, and societies.” Within that larger setting, I...
متن کاملModeling Topic Control in Conversations using Speaker-centric Nonparametric Topic Models
Identifying influential speakers in multi-party conversations has been the focus of research in communication, sociology, and psychology for decades. It has been long acknowledged qualitatively that controlling the topic of a conversation is a sign of influence. To capture who introduces new topics in conversations, we introduce SITS—Speaker Identity for Topic Segmentation—a nonparametric hiera...

Grenade launchers renew the interest for the interior ballistic principle of high/low pressure chambers which is applied in them. In this paper for the sake of optimization in the specific grenade launcher the theoretical investigations are carried out. In theoretical modeling special attention is paid to flow of two- phase mixture of propellant gases and unburned propellant from the high -pres...
